Authenticating drivers
Driver and charging authentication management
Any operator can create new drivers for the system. The only required piece of information about the driver is a name, which may be the name of a natural person or a reference to a record in another system. In fleet charging contexts where a vehicle is a more natural subject for reporting transactions, the driver model may also be used to depict vehicles rather than drivers.
Drivers may have several authentication tags associated with them, which, when presented to the charger will allow the driver to start a charging transaction if the driver has been authorized to use the charger where the authentication attempt was made.
A driver may have more than one authentication tags, which will all share the privileges granted to the driver.
A driver may be authorized to use a single Charger or all chargers on a Site. If a privilege is granted to a site which contains nested Sites, the privileges will be granted to the nested sites as well.
A driver cannot log into the system themselves to make any changes or view data.
Authenticating Drivers and Charging vehicles
A driver can authenticate via any means that the charger can provide to the backend as an authentication string over OCPP. Most commonly this means presenting an NFC tag to the reader on the charger. Additionally, depending on the charger the following authentication methods may be available:
- ISO15118 or Mode4 provided Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or MAC address
- Vehicle license plate via camera
- PIN-code input
- Bluetooth or other radio proximity scanner
Once authenticated, the charger will begin a charging transaction and the power consumption information will be associated with both the authentication method (e.g. NFC tag) and the driver owning the tag.
Edit Driver information
1. If you want to edit driver's information, navigate to the driver in question and edit their name, home site or RFID tags.
2. By updating driver's home site they can be grouped and organized using the same site hierarchy as with the chargers. Operators can have access to only certain sites so they can only manage drivers whose home site has been set. Note: Driver’s Home Site does not give any permission for charging. Only adding permissions will.
3. You can also add new and edit existing RFID tags. By providing RFID value and start and/or expiration date the driver can then authenticate to the chargers they have access with the given RFID tag within the valid timerange.
View and update Driver's charging permissions
Add or update permissions
1. Driver's charging permissions are managed under "Permissions"
2. You can add new permissions by clicking "Add Permissions"
3. Drivers can have permissions to other sites and/or single chargers. Drivers can have permission to several sites and inherit the right to a subsite if given access to its parent.
4. If you want to add only some chargers from certain site, you can toggle "Add all chargers in selected groups" and select the chargers manually.
Remove permissions
1. You can remove permissions for sites/chargers by clicking "Remove Permissions"
2. Select the sites you want to remove permissions from and finish removal by clicking "Remove". You can always add the permissions back, if you accidentally removed the permissions from wrong chargers/sites.
